We are excited to offer an in-person Research Management Internship at GENUS, University of the Witwatersrand. This opportunity is ideal for postgraduate students with a Master’s degree or higher in one of the palaeoscience disciplines seeking hands-on research management experience.

By joining GENUS: DST-NRF Centre of Excellence in Palaeosciences, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of palaeosciences in South Africa and significantly impact the academic and research landscape.

The Research Management Internship is a five-month, part-time, paid position. Compensation will be provided in accordance with the University of the Witwatersrand Human Resource Policies and will be commensurate with the intern’s level of experience and qualifications.

Purpose of the Internship

  • To learn about grant management – To assist students and researchers in applying for funding or who have received funding. This entails pre-award and post-award activities and simultaneously maintaining compliance with all policies, especially those related to expenditure, as well as the regulations of the external and internal funders.
  • To learn about science communication and branding.
  • To learn about developing strategic plans for the palaeoscience community.

 Requirements

  • A Masters or higher degree in one of the palaeoscience disciplines (i.e. Palaeontology, Archaeology, etc.)
  • Experience in management in professional societies or other management skills within the academic or palaeoscience community
  • Excellent communication skills in the written and spoken form using professional English
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good ICT skills, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and how to use the internet to look for publications and authors
  •  Some travel may be required
