Introducing the ‘We Dig Fossils Grant’

GENUS continues to invest in the future of palaeoscience.

Last October GENUS launched the newly created We Dig Fossil Grant. GENUS supports the We Dig Fossils Grant through funding from the DSI-NRF Centres of Excellence in Palaeosciences funding platform and donations.

Our new generation of grants is to empower black women (she/they). The recipients of the We Dig Fossils Grant are leaders of today and the future. The grant will give the successful recipient funding dedicated to research undertaken over a two-year period. It provides resources and time to take her/their career to the next level.

GENUS supports research that has a strong emphasis on the South African fossil record or Early to Middle Stone Age archaeological record. Project Director of GENUS, Dr Christine Steininger, says that the research produced should not only bolster academic knowledge but should reach a wider community and build a strong knowledge society.

She adds: “We are looking for someone who is innovative in their research approach; someone who displays leadership qualities and whose work will add new depth to palaeosciences.”
